SELF_RECONCILIATION

Concept

This project delves into themes of self-awareness and self-soothing, inspired by the notion that "There must be a second me in this world, who only shows up at night." This idea prompted the creation of two scenes: one depicting a solitary figure kneeling on the ground, and the other a figure kneeling as it soothes another. The project visually captures the introspective and often solitary journey of self-reflection and the comforting embrace of understanding one's inner self.

Design Process

The design process began with conceptual sketches to capture the figures' emotional essence and physical posture in both scenes. Attention was given to the positioning and interaction between the figures in the second scene to convey a sense of comfort and empathy. The sketches were then translated into digital models using 3D modeling software. The kneeling posture in both scenes was deliberate, symbolizing moments of vulnerability and introspection.

Modeling

Transitioning from concept to tangible reality, these figures are envisioned as "Pocket Souls"—miniature, portable symbols of personal reflection. They serve as an outward representation of the often unseen, encapsulating our deepest thoughts and emotions. This customization aspect introduces a personal touch, enabling individuals to connect with a "Pocket Soul" that closely mirrors their personal journey.

Grasshopper

In Grasshopper, we finely tuned the figures and the cube to balance harmony with contrast. The figures, shaped with pixels, highlight the digital essence of our introspection, juxtaposing the cube's strict geometry that represents the boundaries within which our self-reflection is framed.

Pixel Model

The cube, with its sharp lines and defined structure, symbolizes the constraints and frameworks that shape our self-perception and reflection. The choice to render geometry figures in pixels evoking the fragmented nature of digital identity. It underscores a exploration of how we perceive and reconstruct our selves within the confines of a digital environment. This pixelation brings forth a granularity, a texture that contrasts yet complements the cube’s sleek geometry.

Mesh Issues

We were faceing Non-manifold edges & Intersecting Faces Problems,so the model was not suitable for 3d printing. We try to using the shrinkwrap, the model becomes good mesh, but it resulted in the model becoming overly smooth, diverging from the pixel effect.

Solution

1. Use "MeshSelfIntersect" to get lines at the self-intersections.

2. Delete all of the faces around each curve.

3. Fill the hole that's left behind.

Printing Specifications

Material: Black/Matte(Pixel geometry) & Clear/glossy(Cube)

Color: Black for the figures to represent the shadow self, with transparent color for the encompassing cube, denoting clarity and protective space.

Fabrication Details

The models were designed for 3D printing, with specific considerations for color and material. The figures are to be printed in black to symbolize the shadow self or the parts of our psyche that emerge in solitude or contemplation. The surrounding cube will be printed in transparent white, signifying clarity, protection, and the space within which self-reflection occurs. The choice of colors enhances the visual and thematic contrast between the figures and their environment.
